Apple Launches iPhone 4 Case Program

Apple has launched its iPhone 4 case program. You can order your free case via their application on the App Store named ‘iPhone 4 Case Program’. You can choose between 7 different cases by various companies including Griffin and Incase. Here is the list of cases available: black colored Apple Bumper, Incase Snap Case in smoke or clear, Belkin Shield Micra in clear, Griffin Motif with diamond pattern in smoke color, Griffin Reveal Etch in black graphite, Speck Fitted with a dark tartan plaid pattern, and Speck PixelSkin HD in black. Which of these cases will you choose? I may be able to help you out…

Apple iPhone 4 Bumper provides minimal protection but that may be what you’re looking for. Let’s face it, most have said they feel the iPhone 4 design is awesome looking. I myself feel the black glass and shiny metal look does seem snazzy and kind of ritzy. The Bumper only covers the outer rim of your iPhone 4 with a little lip. You’ll get a tiny bit of protection for the front or rear when you lay your iPhone 4 on a completely flat surface. Overall, this is a case for those that are really cautious with their iPhone already, and want to keep the great Apple aesthetic as visible as possible. The Apple iPhone Bumper has a MSRP of $30.

Incase Snap Case is another fairly basic protection option. A hard but light material that covers both sides of your iPhone. There’s no button covers or protection for the top and bottom. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The openness can make it easier to continue using certain dock and headphone accessories.. This is the only case Apple is offering in more than one color, smoke or clear. The Incase Snap Case has a MSRP of $30.

Belkin Shield Micra features a similar clear hard polycarbonate protection as the Snap Case with a clear color. No button covers on this one either but it does cover the entire outer rim of the iPhone and the backside. There have been some mixed opinions of Belkin cases over the years, but then again, what company doesn’t have their complaints? Belkin Shield Micra has a MSRP of $25.

Griffin Motif uses the preferred TPU material. TPU is tougher than silicone but more flexible than plastic, providing a good balance of form, ease, looks, and protection. Another option that offers a smoke color, giving partial visibility of your iPhone’s rear, with a diamond pattern. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to tell on the photos how much space is provided for port access but from the the few photos available, it doesn’t appear to be a ton. Griffin Motif has a MSRP of $20.

Griffin Reveal Etch is a little more typical case. Etch features a rubber rim protection with a hard polycarbonate back panel. This case isn’t transparent but does have a black graphite “etch” pattern. Because it does give more protection and offers a rubber edge, the Reveal Etch does provide protection for external buttons. Griffin Reveal Etch has a MSRP of $30.

Speck Fitted is a two piece polycarbonate case with a patterned fabric rear surface. The patterned fabric is for aesthetics and some handling comfort. The only thing to possibly note is that the port and button locations are left open. To me, this interrupts the eye pleasing looks and could allow for dirt, sand, etc to possibly sneak behind your iPhone a little easier than some other options. Overall though, if you’re into the dark tartan plaid look, this could be a very viable option. Speck Fitted has a MSRP of $30.

Speck PixelSkin HD is a thin rubber case with a thin plastic “pixel” textured backside. This case does offer button protection and the “pixels” offer added grip and interesting looks. Offers sufficient protection and seems to give plenty of space around the headphone and dock connectors. Apple is only offering this in black. Speck PixelSkin HD has a MSRP of $30.

I choose the Griffin Reveal Etch as I already have a Bumper. Hopefully, I will be able to get a full refund. Which one will you go for?

Touchnote review

Hey guys,

It has been a while since I last posted a review. But I have a real good one here for you. I know it’s not really a case review but I had to review since it had a lot of hype.

Todays review is of an application for the iPhone called Touchnote.

Touchnote is the best place to customise your photos and turn them into great-looking personalised cards from your computer or from your mobile phone. Whether you want a funny personalised birthday card, a touching Valentine’s card, a romantic anniversary card, a touching Mother’s day card or a greeting card for any occasion, we will have something for you. From a choice of one of our greeting card, Touchnote card or postcard products, you can create the right card for the right occasion – the way you want it.

They have developed their own application which allows a user to chose a photo or take a new image and upload it to use as a postcard, you can add captions, messages and even your location. The application is so simple to use, the interface is very user friendly and you can clearly see all options as you progress through the process. Touchnote kindly gave me a special version of their application which cuts out the paying process so I can’t comment on that but I’m sure if it’s anything like the rest of the application it should be a piece of cake to use.

I sent a few postcards to people I know around the UK and all of the postcards arrived the next day or the day after I ordered the postcard. They were of excellent quality, and I found no faults in any of the postcards. I really love this application, and I would definitely recommend this to everyone and anyone who wants to send  personalised postcard. It makes sending a postcard personal, you can give it your own little touch of love.

This application receives a 5 out of 5 purely because this is a very unique application which takes something that used to be difficult and slow but now takes only a few minutes.

A very BIG thank you goes to Raam Thakrar. The main man of the company who not only got me this application but also endured a phone call with me and answered all of my burning questions.

iFrogz Review [Part Two]

Silicone Sleeve (thick black) & Silicone Wrapz (royal blue)

Well guys, I’ve got the silicone sleeve and silicone wrapz for you today both from iFrogz, who again kindly sent them to me.

These cases offer a quicker and easier way to protect your iPhone and in a stylish way. The sleeve i found was more protective as the silicone tended to cover a lot more of the device that the wrapz. On both cases the bottom area is left open which is a great feature, it means you still have full use of the mic and speakers as well as the connector.

On the wrapz the top was like the bottom, and i don’t understand fully why this is. Because there isn’t a constant need to use the SIM tray, however it allows you to use pretty much any set of headphones because unlike the sleeve where you can only really fit slim headphones into the gap.

With both cases i found the lock button and silence switch were easy to use, and the volume rocker was also easy to use. As a whole the sleeve makes things a bit harder to use because it’s more protective. So if you want more protection from a silicone case then you will have to compromise.

Again as with most cases from iFrogz the cases are available in a range of colours and other devices.

iFrogz Review [Part One]

Luxe case (neon green) & Clear top (ruby red)

The first thing I found with the Luxe is the fact that it has a small felt lining on the inside of the case, the Clear top has the same but not on the top section. This really helps especially as the case is a hard one, this just adds to the protection of your iPhone.

The slider stop locking mechanism works really well and provides an easy access to get your phone into and out of the case; the slider stop is used in the exact same way on both cases.

Moving onto the external aspects I found that the Luxe has a soft sort of marshmallow feel to it, the green and black colour scheme makes for a really look at me case. Where as the Clear top has a marshmallow feel to the bottom but the top part as it is clear it has a glossy grip finish. Some areas are a little too exposed for my liking such as the volume rocker, but overall these cases provides a lot of protection.

They’re excellent if you want to put your device in your bag (providing you have a screen protector). I would most certainly recommend these cases, and because they come in so many different colours there is one for everyone.

Gelaskin – Skin Review

iPod Touch 2G (Growth skin)

Firstly I would like to thank Gelaskins for sending in this product for us to review. One of the first things i found with this skin was that it was really easy to apply, it’s like a thick sticker and if you go wrong when putting it on you can peel it of and try again. It fits the devices really well and with the endless amount of predesigned skins plus the option for creating your own skin there is definitely one for everyone. It has a glossy finish to it and definitely adds protection where it’s needed. The Gelaskin range can cater for loads of products from MacBooks and Laptops to iPods and iPhones, so this makes a great product for everyone.
